As part of the Text Message Opt In/Out requirements, most cell phone carriers will automatically block text messages from a number if a user texts "Cancel" or "Stop" to that number. This is fantastic when attempting to stop spam subscription messages, but not great when attempting to cancel an appointment by text.
If a patient replies "Cancel" to an appointment notification, they will not be able to receive further text messages from the office. Depending on the cell phone carrier, an error message may be received in Talk indicating the patient has opted out of messages, the message was sent to an unsubscribed recipient, or the message was undeliverable.
In order to resume receiving text messages, the patient must text "START" to the office's Talk phone number. If the patient still has the original text message they can reply "START" to opt back into receiving messages.
Note, the message to resume receiving messages is case sensitive and must be sent as "START".
Determining the Talk phone number
Each office is assigned a Talk phone number when configured for text messaging. This is the number that all text messages and calls will originate from. To determine your offices' Talk number go to Practice > Settings > General settings.
