  1. Confirm patient has full name, birth date, address, and phone number in 4D
  2. Ensure Allergy and Medication information on patient in 4D EMR is accurate to ensure reaction and interaction checking is completed.
    1. If patient has “unknown” entered on Clinical > Medical History a red message will display.  
  3.  To add a pharmacy to the patient’s account
    1. If banner indicates that no pharmacy has been added: 
      1.  click blue link to open pharmacy search
    2. To add a new pharmacy:
      1. Click the  button next to the pharmacy dropdown
    3. Search for pharmacy. It is best to include name, city/state and if known the street name 
      1. If writing EPCS ensure the pharmacy is EPCS enabled indicated by C in Type column
    4. Note: Pharmacies must be added using the search lists. Free typed pharmacies will not transmit.
  4. To Write an eRx:
    1. Select the Medication: 
      1. Review any alerts that pop-up during eRx process and take appropriate action by clicking the or buttons
      2. If medication is on Favorites List:
        1. Click     
        2. If listed, click the desired dosage to write an eRx for the specified dosage otherwise click the desired medication and fill out the dosage drop down fields for dose, unit, route, frequency, days’ supply and number of refills. Add directions for patient/pharmacy as needed
      3. If medication is not on Favorites List:
        1. Click  
        2. Search for a medication. If prescribing a medication that has generics available it may be necessary to search for the generic name (example: Emend and aprepitant)
        3. Click desired strength (if not available try searching for generic/name brand variations)
        4. Fill out the dosage drop downs for dose, unit, route, frequency, days’ supply and number of refills. Add directions for patient/pharmacy as needed
    2. Confirm the correct pharmacy is selected in the Pharmacy dropdown. 
    3. Click and review all prescription, pharmacy, and provider information
    4. To save the prescription to the pending Rx list click
    5. To save the prescription and add another click  and repeat steps to write Rx
  5.  To Transmit Rx
    1. Scroll to Prescription Management section at bottom of Patient Info screen
    2. Type Signature Password and click  
    3. If Sending EPCS registered EPCS providers will be prompted to enter Signing Passphrase and a Token PIN from either the EPCS keyfob or Symantic VIP app.
