Dymo Label Printer Integration

Please note: The 4D EMR Support Team cannot provide technical support or extensive troubleshooting assistance for hardware, networks, internet connections or other connectivity issues. This includes computer, tablets, mobile phones, scanners, printers, cameras, and other external devices. Each practice is responsible for ensuring that all computer equipment and connected equipment is properly installed, configured, and functioning as expected. We recommend working with your local I.T. support team to install, maintain, and troubleshoot your hardware.

Activating the Dymo LabelWriter integration will allow printing to a local Dymo LabelWriter printer from the 4D EMR schedule only. DYMO Connect software must be installed on each computer where label printing is needed.

This integration has been tested with the DYMO LabelWriter 450 but should work with other DYMO LabelWriter printers.

Install DYMO Connect for Desktop

Troubleshooting

Please see the DYMO Connect User Guide for general troubleshooting instructions.  Solutions to common/know issues are listed below.

Labels Printing Sideways

The label should print in the orientation shown in Figure 1. If your label prints sideways as shown in Figure 2, adjust the Label Type setting in Step 5 above and/or update the Default Label Type in Step 2. These settings typically resolve orientation issues.

Printer feeds multiple/blank labels

Dymo LabelWriter prints multiple labels (often blank ones) instead of one.  This is usually due to software glitches, dirty sensors, incorrect label settings, or loose label guides, requiring a restart, driver update, sensor cleaning with a provided card, and checking the software's print/label size settings to ensure they match your physical labels.

Troubleshooting Extra Labels (Feeding Issues)
  • Clean Sensor: Feed the provided cleaning card through the printer a few times.
  • Check Settings: Verify label size and type in the software match the physical labels.
  • Tighten Guide: Make sure the label guide is snug against the roll to prevent shifting.
  • Restart: Restart the printer and computer, clear the print queue, and update drivers if issues persist.

4D EMR error notification

If 4D EMR displays the above error notification, please follow these steps:

  1. Confirm that 4D EMR is running in Google Chrome.
  2. Attempt to print the label from another computer.
    • If the label prints successfully, use that computer as a reference to verify that the configuration matches the computer experiencing the error.
  3. On the computer generating the error, close all applications.
  4. Open the DYMO Connect application and attempt to print a label directly from the app.
    • If the label does not print, use the DYMO user guide linked above to troubleshoot the issue. Once resolved, try printing the label from 4D EMR again.
    •  If the label prints successfully, proceed to the next step.
  5. Submit a support ticket to 4D EMR including the patient ID, appointment date and time, and the exact time the error occurred. Our Development Team will review the activity logs to determine whether the issue is related to the current 4D EMR build.
