Barcode Scanning: Setup and Use

Release 172 adds the ability to scan standard UPC codes to add configured products to the shopping cart.  

Scanning Barcodes in Money

The Product Search bar has been updated to allow scanning a UPC code. Products can be automatically selected and added to the shopping cart by clicking inside the search field and scanning the UPC code. 

If the product is configured for commissions or with multiple price points the user will be prompted to select the staff member or price point before the item is added to the cart. 

Adding Barcodes to Products

The UPC code for a product can be added to a product by following these steps:

1. Go to Practice > Products > Product List
2. Click on the product
3. Click on the "Scan Button"
4. Scan the UPC code for the product
5. Click Save to save the changes

If the barcode has already been added to a different product an error message will be displayed. 

Supported Barcode Scanners

4D EMR supports any HID-keyboard barcode scanners capable of producing barcodes containing ≤50 ASCII characters terminated by Enter. These scanners function as keyboards, inserting the barcode as standard keystrokes when scanned.

4D EMR does not support:

• Native USB HID scanners that don't function as a keyboard — no Web HID integration.

• Bluetooth SPP (non-HID) — no Web Bluetooth integration.

• Phone camera scanning
