4D EMR Charges (Procedures, Products, Services, Packages,  Miscellaneous Charges)

4D EMR categorizes charges to patients in five different charge types  Each charge type or category is entered and stored in different setup sections and have different financial and reporting effects in 4D EMR>

  • Procedures: Procedure charges are surgical procedures and can be unique in description, setup, and pricing per doctor/surgeon.
  • Services:  Service charges are non-surgical "procedures" and encounters involving a provider or staff member authorized to perform services. Examples are Facials, Laser Hair Removal, Coolsculpting, Microneedling, Cosmetic Consult Fee, etc.  Service may have different pricing and commission rates and must be explicitly assigned to Staff or Providers.
  • Products:  Products are items that are sold and/or optionally inventory tracked (including no charge inventory consumption for Procedures or Services performed).  Examples include items where the price is determined by the quantity of the item sold, including facial products, injectables (by unit), etc. and surgical supply items that may not be sold but are consumed when Procedures or Services are performed such as implants and garments.
  • Packages:  Packages are charges that include a combination of Services and/or Products that are purchased by a patient and held on account for future consumption.  Examples include a series of laser treatments, facials, etc.
  • Miscellaneous Charges: Miscellaneous charges should be used to create charges to patients that result from the normal operation of the practice and do not involve a specific staff member.  Examples include no-show charges, nsf fees, etc.

Initial Import of 4D EMR Charges

Only Procedures, Products and Services can be imported or manually added and configured by practice staff.  Packages and Miscellaneaous Charges must be manually added to 4D EMR by practice staff..

Practice staff will be provided with separate spreadsheets templates during the onboarding process to list Procedures, Products and Services for import by the 4D EMR data team.  Templates must be complete and properly populated for import.  4D EMR staff will not create, edit, or "interpret" charge import templates.
