Appointment Placeholders

Appointment placeholders provide the ultimate control over your schedule. Appointment placeholders have unique and distinctly different behavior from scheduler templates. Please contact 4D EMR Support for specific details.

Using appointment placeholders, you can create individual time slots on your schedule. These placeholders indicate what kind of appointments should be scheduled in each slot. An appointment placeholder can be filled with a patient appointment by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Create Appointment.'  This will open the usual appointment creation screen; however, the appointment type will be defaulted based on the placeholder. It is possible to change the appointment type away from the default if needed.

By default, users are unable to schedule appointments at the same time as a placeholder. This helps to enforce scheduling guidelines created by the placeholders. A new permission (Scheduling > Override Placeholders) will grant staff members the ability to schedule at the same time as a placeholder.
Appointment placeholders are created by clicking on the 'Manage Placeholder.' Selecting 'Manage Placeholders' will hide all appointments and templates.

An individual placeholder can be created by right-clicking on the schedule while 'Manage Placeholders' is active.

To exit 'Manage Placeholder' mode, click on Options and select Show Appointments.

Adjust the Vertical Scale of the Schedule

It is now possible to 'zoom in' or 'zoom out' on the schedule, increasing the vertical size of appointments. You can now zoom in to see more information on each appointment or zoom out to see the full day at a time.

You can change the vertical zoom by clicking and dragging on the time-line located on the left side of the schedule.

Displaying Appointment Count on Resources

A count of appointments can now be displayed in the Resource header on the schedule. The appointment count can be enabled by going to Practice > Settings > Schedule > Schedule Settings and checking the 'Display Count of Appointments' checkbox.

The count will be visible on Day, Work Week, and Week views. It is a global setting that will impact all users at your practice.

Separating Finances for Managed Surgical Suites

Practices that manage an inside surgical facility can now track facility and anesthesia fees separately. This configuration requires that the surgical center and facility group be created as separate office locations in Practice > Facilities.

Using the separate accounting options will result in three invoices being created for each quote. Payments for these invoices can only be made for the appropriate locations.

For information on how to configure your 4D EMR system for an inside surgical facility using separate accounting locations, please contact 4D EMR Support.
